The Tourism Council of Bullock County is pleased to offer the TWELFTH Annual RDT SUMMER STUDENT CAMP. This year’s camp will be led by well-known director Denise Gabriel. Ms. Gabriel is currently a professor at the University of North Carolina Greensboro where she teaches movement and acting and choreographs and directs. Prior to joining the UNCG faculty, she was the Resident Movement Director with the AL Shakespeare Festival.
Camp participants will receive instruction in the areas of acting & musical theatre.
Students wishing to apply for the RDT SUMMER STUDENT CAMP must be entering the 8th-12th grades in the fall. They should submit an application (750 words or less) stating why they want to participate in the camp and include any experience or training received in theatrical arts or music. Recommendations from teachers are strongly encouraged.
Ms. Gabriel and a team of judges will select the 15 best qualified applicants. $200 scholarships for the camp may be awarded to applicants based on available funding and compliance with requirements. Students not meeting scholarship requirements are welcome to apply and will be accepted on a “first come” basis upon receipt of application and the $200 registration fee.
Camp hours are Sunday, June 18th, from 3-8 p.m.; Monday, June 19th through Friday, June 23th from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m; and, Saturday, June 24th ’s rehearsal (8:45 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.) & performance (7:30 p.m.)
Camp applications must be postmarked by May 31, 2017, and mailed to TCBC, PO Box 5236, Union Springs, AL 36089 or hand-delivered to the Tourism Council office at 106 E. Conecuh Avenue by that date.

The Tourism Council of Bullock County is pleased to offer the 4TH ANNUAL CHILDREN’S SUMMER THEATRE CAMP. The camp will be led by well-known director Kathryn Adams Wood, a native of Union Springs. She was part of the first graduating class of The Alabama High School of the Fine Arts held at Samford University. She then went on to graduate from Troy with a degree in education and music. Kathryn spent seven years working with The Henry Players in McDonough, GA. She won director of the year from the Metro Atlanta Theatre Awards for her production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Kathryn has conducted children’s summer camps in Jonesboro, GA, where she lives with husband Bob. Ms. Wood also directed the very popular Papa’s Angels at the Red Door in 2013 as well as Conecuh People (2015), Wedding Belles (2016), & Tokens of Affection (2017).
In this year's camp, participants will learn acting techniques & rehearse and perform two one-act plays, “A STONE IN THE ROAD” and “RUMPLESTILTSKIN."
Camp auditions will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m., and Monday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m. Children must attend one of the auditions. A maximum of 20 children will be selected to participate in the theatre camp.
Camp hours are Sunday, June 4, from 4-5 p.m., and Monday-Friday, June 5-9, from 8:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The week will culminate with the performance of “A Stone in the Road/Rumplestiltskin” on Friday, June 9, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, June 10, at 10:00 a.m. (if necessary).
Children are to wear camp style clothes— t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers (no open-toed shoes)—and bring a healthy snack & water with their name on it.
