The Widow's Best Friend

Catfish Moon by Laddy Sartin
FEBRUARY 11-13, 2010 (MATINEE OFFERED)
Theatre-goers to this delightful comedy will be hooked as they watch three old friends on an overnight fishing trip trying to recapture their boyhood memories. The men encounter difficulties as it becomes evident that middle age has stolen their youthful innocence--especially when it is discovered that one of the men is dating another’s ex-wife. But the magic of the Catfish Moon that evening takes hold, and just as it seems that all will be resolved, an unexpected twist occurs. The poignant climax of the play brings the realization that life is too precious and short to let true friendship get away. (Dramatists Play Service) Each performance is accompanied by a buffet reception. Overnight accommodations are available at nearby lodges. Play/$15; Reception/$10; Overnight with breakfast for 2/$100-125.

Also included in "the Experience" are a quilt exhibit in the town's beautiful old churches, a tour of Pauly Jail (c. 1897), an exhibition by local artists, self-guided tours of historical buildings and sites, a seated dinner, and overnight accommodations in nearby lodges. Play/$15; Dinner/$15; Overnight with breakfast for 2/$100-125.
The Widow’s Best Friend by Randy Hall
AUGUST 5-7, 2010
Alabama playwright Randy Hall pays a comedic tribute to the stringent mores and unwritten laws that constrict Southerners as tightly as a congealed salad. The play opens in the home of Cornelia and Hoyt Dupree in the small town of Persepolis, Ala. Word has just hit the wire that Hoyt is dead of a sudden heart attack, and Cornelia is so distraught that she has locked herself in her bedroom and refuses to come out. In staggered intervals, all of Cornelia's "best friends," bearing casseroles fresh out of the oven and freezer, burst into her home like mine-sweepers locked on a mission of helpfulness. (Nashville Sound) By the time this delightful comedy ends, the only crying the audience is doing is crying tears of laughter. Each performance is accompanied by a pre-show dinner. Overnight accommodations are available at nearby lodges. Play/$15; Dinner/$15; Overnight with breakfast for 2/$100-125.
Wise Women by Ron Osborne
DECEMBER 2-4, 2010 (MATINEE OFFERED)
Set just before Christmas and serenaded between scenes by Frank Sinatra and other '40s holiday favorites, Wise Women easily plucks the holiday heart strings. In Ron Osborne's play, two girls who have traveled from afar to work at a munitions factory in Knoxville move in with a single mom and her 17-year-old daughter. All three women have secrets hidden in their histories, and amid this crew of grin and bearers, Mom attempts to keep her daughter out of boy-trouble. (MetroActive) Audiences will delight in the tender resolution to this delightful holiday production. A festive buffet reception will accompany each performance. Overnight accommodations are available at nearby lodges. Play/$15; Reception/$10; Overnight with breakfast for 2/$100-125.
